Composites with excellent flame retardant and mechanical properties are in high demand in the aerospace and various industrial fields. Glass fiber (GF) reinforced polyimide (PI) composites (GFRPCs) were fabricated using a simple ball milling and hot pressing technique. The effect of GF content on the thermal stability, mechanical and flame retardant properties of composites has been systematically studied. The Rockwell hardness of GFRPCs increase with increasing GF content, while the compressive strength, impact strength and flexural strength initially show an increase followed by a decrease due to the excellent dispersibility of the fillers and the strong interfacial interaction between the one‐dimensional GF and PI matrix. Thermogravimetric analysis results show that the addition of GF with very low thermal conductivity and excellent temperature resistance can effectively improve the thermal stability of PI. Adding GF into PI can obviously improve the limiting oxygen index value. Moreover, as the GF content increased, the time to ignition of the composites prolonged while total heat release decreased. These findings suggest a viable solution for enhancing both the flame retardance and mechanical properties of PI‐based composites.Highlights GFRPCs with high GF content fabricated via ball milling‐hot pressing method. Silane modified GF obviously improves the thermal stability of PI matrix. GFRPCs‐28 exhibits superior mechanical properties. An increases in time to ignition (TTI) and mass residual rate (MRR) of the GFRPCs was observed on adding GF.

Polyurethane (PU) filling materials are typically utilized in coal mines for filling and fortification in order to guarantee safe support structures. Existing PU filling materials are prone to polymer fires, and the current method of using additives to cool them down has the problem of the additive absorbing heat in advance to weaken the PU foam wall and reduce the mechanical properties. This article addresses the problem of the mismatch between the phase change heat absorption of hydrated salts and the exothermic polymerization of PU. This article discusses the thermal delay matching of phase change materials based on the exhalation completion time of polyurethane. It then presents a method for preparing thermally delayed phase-change hydrated salt materials using thermal insulation and porous composites, which allows for the low thermal polymerization of hydrated salt phase-change composite polyurethane. Low-heat exothermic polyurethane materials offer several advantages over their original polyurethane counterparts, including a lower exothermic heat output (with a 30 °C drop in maximum central temperature), 3−4 times higher foaming volume, and a 40% decrease in smoke density grade. This paper reveals the adaptive matching mechanism between the polyurethane curing exotherm and hydrated salt phase change heat absorption. The findings have significant implications for promoting the development of mining polymer material technology.

This work aims to evaluate the effects of polyamide (PA) and nano‐Al2O3 on the mechanical properties of epoxy resin (EP) and obtain the optimal addition content of PA and nano‐Al2O3. Epoxy matrix composite (EMC) is prepared via the solution blending method using the PA as the curing agent, toughening agent, and the nano‐Al2O3 modified with the silane coupling agent as the filler. Then it is tested for tensile, hardness, impact and wear resistance performances. The results show that when the ratio of PA to EP varies in the range of 40 wt.% to 80 wt.%, increasing the PA content can improve the impact toughness and plasticity of EMC but reduce its hardness, tensile strength and wear resistance. When the content of PA is 60 wt.% of EP, the elongation at break and impact strength of EMC are increased by 66.4% and 12.9%, respectively. The mechanical performances of EMC can be enhanced by loading nano‐Al2O3 fillers in a specific range. When the content of nano‐Al2O3 is 2 wt.% of EP, the elastic modulus, the tensile strength and the wear resistance of EMC are increased by 27.9%, 20.8% and 49%, respectively. The research can provide a valid technical reference for the industrial application of EMC materials.
