“…Liquid flow in nanochannels is of great importance for a variety of applications, including water filtration, , drug delivery, , heterogeneous catalysis, , chemical and bio-sensing, , and many others. Especially, forced liquid flow in hydrophobic nanochannels is employed as a novel mechanism for energy storage and mitigation in a liquid nanofoam (LN) system. In an LN system composed of a hydrophobic nanoporous media and a nonwetting liquid, the liquid molecules are forced into the nanochannels when the applied external load is sufficient to overcome the capillary force. As the external load is removed, the intruded liquid can be fully or partially expelled from the hydrophobic nanochannels. , Because of its highly hysteretic mechanical response, tremendous amount of energy is mitigated by the LN system.…”

“…The dynamic impact behavior of the cushion pads was characterized by a lab‐customized drop tower apparatus (inset in Figure 6d). [ 61 ] Before each test, the cushion pad was placed on the flat base of the drop tower. As the test was triggered, a 2.3 kg drop mass fell freely and impacted the cushion pad.…”

“…The surrounding part of foam filler can be approximatively subjected to the multi-axial loading with folding, which results in more and closer interaction between foam cells and nanocrystallization wall. In addition, the interaction effect is generated by additional energy dissipation mechanism, including the resistance of inward bulking and the interfacial friction between the filler and the tube wall [15,42]. The collapse mode for FLNT-4 under axial compression is shown in Figure 21.…”

“…Sun and his co-workers [20,[29][30][31][32][33][34] studied crashworthiness for a series of foam-filled thin-walled structures and carried out multi-objective optimization for the structures. In addition, the crashworthiness for thin-walled structures filled with different foam fillers, for examples, polyurethane foam [35][36][37][38], polyvinyl chloride foam [39], auxetic foam [40,41], liquid nanofoam [42,43], etc., was further studied.…”
