Enhanced Grid-Connected Phase-Locked Loop Based on a Moving Average Filter

Abstract: Moving average filter (MAF)-based phase-locked loops (PLLs) have received considerable attention in recent years due to their attractive features. Indeed, they are able to completely eliminate the unwanted effect of harmonics, dc offset, and unbalanced voltages. Unfortunately, these advantages come at the cost of open-loop bandwidth reduction, which worsens the system's dynamic response. The main challenge is to estimate the phase and frequency timely and precisely from an imbalanced and distorted voltage. In … Show more

“…In the grid-connected system, grid-connected power inverters are viable for use as a phase-locked loop to detect the phase and frequency of the grid voltage to effectively control the energy transmission between the grid-connected inverter and the grid [5][6][7][8]. Currently, there are many types of references on how to improve the phase-locked loop under unbalanced and distorted grid conditions to ensure the stable and reliable operation of grid-connected inverters [9][10][11][12][13][14]. Reference [14] improved the structure of the phase-locked loop based on the moving average filter and the quasi-type-1 PLL, thereby improving the speed and robustness of the PLL under distorted power grid conditions.…”

“…When connected to the grid, MG must follow the grid code and the IEEE standards. For mitigation of PQ issues, many control methods are stated in the literature; some are frequency adaptive moving average filter, 11 pulse‐width modulation (PWM) technique, 12 and adaptive vectorial filter 13 . The designs of these techniques are complex.…”

“…For improving the Performance of PLL, several pre‐filtering and in‐filtering techniques have been proposed. One such is the moving average filter based PLL that is reported to improve the performance but slows down the dynamic response . Dual Synchronous reference frame‐PLL has been reported in literature in which cross feedback network has been used for extracting the positive and negative sequence of fundamental frequency components.…”
