Enhanced lipid and biomass production by a newly isolated and identified marine microalga

Abstract: BackgroundThe increasing demand for microalgae lipids as an alternative to fish has encouraged researchers to explore oleaginous microalgae for food uses. In this context, optimization of growth and lipid production by the marine oleaginous V2-strain-microalgae is of great interest as it contains large amounts of mono-unsaturated (MUFAs) and poly-unsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs).MethodsIn this study, the isolated V2 strain was identified based on 23S rRNA gene. Growth and lipid production conditions were optimi… Show more

“…These acids are common in several families of microalgae as in H. pluvialis red. 30,38 Through untargeted analysis, as shown in Table 5, three interesting compounds, which were not found to be reported prior to this study, were identied in H. pluvialis. N-phenyldecanoic acid was identied by both positive and negative ionization, presenting a mass error of less than 1 ppm and a difference in its isotopic pattern of less than 10 mSigma.…”

“…Flasks were incubated at 28 °C at a continuous illumination intensity (80 μmol photons·m −2 ·s −1 ) provided by cool-white fluorescence tubes (TL5 tungsten filament lamps; Philips Co., Taipei, Taiwan). Every two days, the cultures were visually examined and the algal development was confirmed by inverted microscopy analysis at 40× magnification (Motic microscope AE2000, Barcelona, Spain) [ 49 ].…”

“…The amount of carotenoids ( Y ) was fixed as the design experiments response which could be described by a second order polynomial function. Nemrod-W ® software (LPRAI, Marseille, France) was used, for the experimental design, regression and statistical analysis [ 49 , 53 ] (Logiciel Nemrod-W, LPRAI, Marseille, France). Table 1 and Table 2 show independents variables of the Box–Behnken plan in coded levels where Y is the response variable, β 0 the constant, X i and X j the coded variables ranging between +1 and −1.…”

“…The marine microalgae Tetraselmis sp. strainV2 (Dammak et al 2016) was used in this study. In order to evaluate to median effective concentration of BPA after 96 h of incubation EC 50 (96 h), algal cultures supplemented with different concentrations of BPA (0, 0.2, 1, 2.5 and 5 mg L −1 ) were monitored.…”
