Enhanced Stability of Photoelectrodes with Electrogenerated Polyaniline Films

Abstract: Polyaniline was electrodeposited on platinum and semiconducting (Cd‐chalcogenides, Si, normalGaAs , normalGaP ) electrodes from aqueous solution false(pH=1false) containing aniline. The electrochemical behavior of such films was examined in aqueous and nonaqueous solutions by cyclic voltammetry. Results show that the polyaniline film is conducting in both cathodic and anodic regions at pH<3 as evidenced by the electrochemical redox reactions of various redox couples on polyanilinecoated electrodes. In ge… Show more

“…Intrinsically conductive polymers (ICP) have been intensively studied since 1976; these studies focused on their potential technological applications, including electro-chromic devices, [1][2][3][4] batteries, [5][6][7][8] sensors, catalysis, capacitors, antistatic coatings, and gas separation membranes. 9 -13 An electrochromic device is combined by optically transparent electrodes coated with complementary electrochromic materials and separated by an electrolyte, which may be either solid or liquid.…”

“…EC methods are clean and easy to handle and therefore, there is increasing interest in the development of practical EC methods for the treatment of high toxicity and biorefractory organic pollutants. Further, chemical and electrochemical oxidation of aniline, which produces a conductive polymer (polyaniline) has received considerable interest in recent years because of its applications in a variety of technological fields, such as electrochromic devices [15], chemical sensors [16], charge storage systems [17] protection against corrosion [18] etc.…”

“…2,3 Consequently, PAN and its derivatives have versatile applications including use as active electronic materials, 4,5 in secondary batteries, 6,7 and in microelectronic and electrochromic devices. [7][8][9][10] To improve the processibility and thermal and environmental stability and to induce novel electronic and electrochemical properties, substituted PANs are being developed.…”
