Enhancement of air stability and photovoltaic performance in organic solar cells by structural modulation of bis‐amide‐based donor‐acceptor copolymers: A computational insight

Abstract: The effect of structural modulation on a series of donor‐acceptor (D‐A) copolymers (1‐7), comprising of thieno[3,2‐b]thiophene (TT) donor and thiazole‐flanked different bis‐amide‐functionalized acceptor units, has been explored. Structural functionalization has been performed by incorporating aromatic rings in the bis‐amide‐functionalized bipyrrolylidene‐2,2′(1H,1′H)‐dione (BPD) (1) acceptor unit, and six D‐A copolymers containing isoindigo (2), azaisoindigo (3), benzoisoindigo (4), benzoazaisoindigo (5), 1,5‐… Show more

“…The open-circuit voltage (V oc ) is an important factor in considering the device performance of any photovoltaic material and its operating mechanism. V oc can be explained as the entire quantity of current provided by the photovoltaic device without any external load for electricity generation 43 , 44 . The V oc is strongly related to fill factor and power conversion efficiency 45 .…”

“…Further, the exciton separation procedure leads to additional energy losses because of the high exciton binding energy E b . Large exciton binding energy must be overcome to dissociate exciton to charges successfully 44 , 46 , 53 . To overcome this, one of the key parameters is E b , which is directly related to the charge separation in OSCs.…”

“…So far, the correlation between these competing mechanisms from an atomistic point of view is not fully understood. For OSCs, Marcus theory is widely used to predict the CT and charge recombination rates at the organic donor/acceptor interfaces [105,106]. To the best of our knowledge, there is a lack of comprehensive first-principles studies focusing on modeling CT and recombination rates for perovskite/CTL interfaces.…”
