Enhancement of Light Absorption in Photovoltaic Devices using Textured Polydimethylsiloxane Stickers

Abstract: We designed and fabricated a random-size inverted-pyramid-structured polydimethylsiloxane (RSIPS-PDMS) sticker to enhance the light absorption of solar cells and thus increase their efficiency. The fabricated sticker was laminated onto bare glass and crystalline silicon (c-Si) surfaces; consequently, low solar-weighted reflectance values were obtained for these surfaces (6.88 and 17.2%, respectively). In addition, we found that incident light was refracted at the PDMS-air interface of each RSIPS, which redirec… Show more

“…PDMS has good transparency with wavelength ranging from 240 to 1100 nm, and it is widely used for optoelectronic applications. 20 Moreover, PDMS is hydrophobic, which will help in protecting the Solar cell underwater, and it is inert, non-toxic, and non-flammable.…”

“…The encapsulation of the Solar cell was carried out to protect it from the underwater conditions as the electrical connections of the Solar cell may be short‐circuited in such an environment. In this work, the solar cell was encapsulated by PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane), which is a silicon‐based organic polymer with having unique advantages like hydrophobicity and transparency . A rectangular enclosure was designed and printed using the 3D printer device to encapsulate the Solar cell with PDMS.…”

“…Inverted pyramidal shapes with dimensions in the order of visible light wavelength were prepared using soft elastomeric stamp technique and integrated into organic solar cell as an ARC . Random and patterned V‐grooves with dimensions much larger than the wavelength were also employed to enhance the photovoltaic performance of thin organic solar cells . These wavelength‐scale structured haze films are made using a large‐scale compatible route for future printable PVs.…”
