Enhancement of Oxidative Desulfurization Performance over UiO‐66(Zr) by Titanium Ion Exchange

Abstract: Oxidative desulfurization is considered to be one of the most promising methods for producing ultra-low-sulfur fuels because it can effectively remove refractory sulfur-containing aromatic compounds under mild conditions. In this work, the oxidative desulfurization performance over UiO-66(Zr) is greatly enhanced by Ti ion exchange. This strategy is not only efficient for UiO-66(Zr) with crystal defects but also for UiO-66(Zr) with high crystallinity. In particular, the performance of UiO-66(Zr) with high cryst… Show more

“…In order to validate the successful incorporation of Ti to PCN‐224, the photoluminescence (PL) of the TCPP linker was weakened (Figure E), illustrating the improved ligand‐metal charge transfer because the Ti‐incorporation could narrow down the bandgap of MOFs as reported before. A new band at 671 cm −1 was observed in the FT‐IR spectra (Figure S3, Supporting Information), mostly ascribed to the O–Ti–O vibration as predicted . In the X‐ray photoelectron spectra (XPS), the binding energy of Zr shifted lower (Figure G) due to the weaker electro‐negativity caused by Ti which was also observed in the Ti 2p region (Figure H).…”

“…Ye et al. operated a Ti ion exchange using TiCl 4 over standard zirconium UiO‐66, greatly enhancing the desulfurization efficacy (up to 11‐fold) using aqueous H 2 O 2 as oxidant . This strategy is not only efficient for UiO‐66(Zr) with crystal defects but also for the pristine fully‐coordinated MOF (Figure ).…”

“…Based on the structure of UiO-66(Zr), bimetal-centered UiO-66(Zr) materials were also prepared. Sun et al firstly reported Ti-UiO-66(Zr) obtained by ion-exchange method for ODS reactions [43]. It is well known that Ti ions have stronger oxidation ability than Zr ions [44].…”
