Enhancement of plasmalemmasome formation in spinach mesophyll cells

Abstract: Plasmalemmasomes (PLSs) are intrusions of the plasmalemma into the cytoplasm and further into the vacuole. A dramatically increased frequency of PLSs was found in mesophyll cells of developing and mature spinach leaves sprayed with Ti-ascorbate as compared to the K-ascorbate and water control. Some details of their early development are presented. The increased frequency of PSs is discussed in the context of eustress, aquaporins and increased water-flux. ARTICLE HISTORY
