OB oil field in the Niger Delta is not producing optimally because of decline in reservoir pressure and low recovery efficiency. The wells have been producing for over 50 years, so the equipments are faulty resulting in premature well abandonment. This work diagnosed the problem of the field, developed a systematic method of production enhancement, and modeled the reservoir, using eclipse 100 to perform multiple sensitivities on some variables to identity conditions for optimum production, and enhance the productivity of the well. The result shows that the mobility ratio of the field is 0.5 therefore water flooding is the best choice for increasing the pressure, also the maximum number of wells required is two production and three injection wells. The distance between injectors and producers is 9110ft. From the design short radius horizontal wells yielded optimum recovery but are discarded because of poor economic viability, hence vertical wells are the best choice for optimal production.

A natural phase in the life of oilfields is the maturation phase where the field undergoes all or some of situations as decline in pressure, increase in water and/or gas production, and fluid contact movement. Reservoir management practices require identifying these oilfield challenges and coming up with solutions to maximize production from such fields adapted to the uniqueness of the wells and reservoirs in the field. This paper discusses a novel multidisciplinary and rapid screening methodology for identifying well intervention candidates. The methodology adopted to evaluate production increase opportunities was on field and well bases. Geology, Petrophysics, Reservoir Engineering, Production Technology, Production Engineering and Completions Engineering disciplines were involved in this study. The field assessment started with the field production performance review using a production surveillance and forecasting tool. This was combined with a holistic field geological review of the static models and well logs on a shared-earth modelling software and a wellbore-centric data integration and interpretation software respectively. Based on the field assessment review, reservoirs were ranked based on remaining oil in place and cumulative production. Results of the field assessment were then fed into the single well assessment phase where individual well performance was reviewed using the production surveillance and forecasting software. This production surveillance and diagnosis was done vis-a-vis a multidisciplinary workflow of integrating reservoir models, well logs, fluid contact interpretations, pressure data, historical production, completion designs and information from previous workover operations and well surveillance reports. This workflow identified possible candidates where well intervention could be done, the type of well intervention and production enhancement operations that could be deployed, and the order to which the interventions should take place based on cost and potential gains. However, to estimate the incremental production that could be derived from the proposed well interventions, a workflow coupling single well predictive modelling and production systems analysis was done, which was further used to rank the wells. Implementing the recommendations from the rapid screening and ranking workflow resulted in incremental production of 3300 bopd from the few intervention operations executed. The results also validated the predictions made during the rapid screening study. This paper thus demonstrates the added value in a multidisciplinary approach to screening and identifying candidates for well intervention, to extend the life of producing wells and ultimately increase field production.

Stimulating Long Horizontal Polymer Injectors with Hoist: A Case Study from South Sultanate of Oman

The multidisciplinary Authors summarize the lessons learned from stimulating a long horizontal Polymer Injection well with a Hoisting Unit; the main objective was to reduce the associated cost as compared to a Coiled Conventional Tubing (CCT) Unit, but achieving the same or even improved results. The details procedures for conducting this type of job is summarized in this paper. The well was completed with a smart completion, creating four distinguished zones, Earlier, bullheading approach was carried out, but later on when the smart completion failed, it was necessary to stimulate with a CCT to cover all the different zones in the long well section. This has caused a sharp increase in the price of the job. Hence, a trial has been carried out utilizing a Hoist, with improved acid recipe that is cheaper and better in performance as compared to earlier. The detailed procedure for conducting this type of job is summarized in this paper The tables show the injectivity test result in three stages, in the Hoist and the CCT approach the result shows a good improvement after main treatment and a success of the trial with Hoist as compared to CCT. This has proven to be economically viable and unlocked huge cost savings for all future stimulation jobs. A 50% reduction in the total cost is observed. This work has concluded a successful methodology in the utilization of a hoist in performing multi-stage stimulation in long horizontal wells. Very encouraging results have been observed and the suggested method is highly recommended, further trials will continue to be done with other wells The authors believe the learnings from these trials are of great benefit and will add to the state of knowledge of the industry relating to stimulating long horizontal wells
