Enhancing scalar productions with leptoquarks at the LHC

Abstract: The Standard Model (SM), when extended with a leptoquark (LQ) and right-handed neutrinos, can have interesting new implications for Higgs physics. We show that sterile neutrinos can induce a boost to the down-type quark Yukawa interactions through a diagonal coupling associated with the quarks and a scalar LQ of electromagnetic charge 1=3. The relative change is moderately larger in the case of the first two generations of quarks, as they have vanishingly small Yukawa couplings in the SM. The enhancement in th… Show more

“…Moreover, our lack of understanding of the pattern of Higgs couplings motivates probing even unnaturally large enhancements in the light Yukawas that may be difficult to obtain without tuning (see refs. [55][56][57][58][59][60][61] for some examples of specific models). It is therefore important to reduce the experimental uncertainty as much as possible in the future.…”

“…Assuming that d and s quarks have couplings of similar size, this bound leads to y 6 × 10 −3 , when m LQ 500 GeV. 7 These bounds are relaxed by one order of magnitude if the couplings are real, and at least by one order of magnitude for mesons involving heavy quarks.…”

“…Leptoquarks have been also considered in connection with the phenomenology of the Higgs boson in refs. [5][6][7][8]. It is well known that within the SM and in the present experiments, the multiple Higgs production process is the only way to access the interactions provided by the potential responsible for the spontaneous breaking of the Electroweak (EW) gauge symmetry.…”

“…Certain representations of leptoquarks under the SM gauge group are impossible to obtain in some string theory constructions, so any signal of such a LQ would immediately rule out a number of models [58]. Aside from any UV motivations for their existence, LQs near the weak scale have been well studied in the literature [59][60][61][62][63][64][65][66][67][68][69][70][71][72][73][74], and have been frequently appealed to in order to explain various low energy anomalies e.g. in B meson decays [75][76][77][78][79][80][81][82][83][84][85][86][87][88][89][90][91][92].…”
