Abstract:Climatic wetting‐drying cycles exacerbated by climate change can trigger several weakening mechanisms in surface soils, potentially leading to instability and failure of slopes and earthen structures. This study proposes a bio‐mediated approach based on microbially induced calcite precipitation (MICP) to increase soil resilience to wetting‐drying cycles. To explore its viability and the underlying mechanisms, we conducted a series of laboratory tests on clayey soil that underwent six wetting‐drying cycles. The… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
