Abstract: Tetraphenylethene (TPE), a star building block with promising aggregation‐induced emission, has received much interest. Given that its intramolecular Woodward‐Hoffmann cyclic intermediate instantaneously converts back to the original state within several picoseconds, the essentially photochromic characteristic of TPE is little investigated.
