Enhancing the NOx and soot emissions reduction benefits of a low compression ratio light duty diesel engine by optimization of piston bowl design

Abstract: In the present work, the benefits of the low compression ratio (LCR) concept on simultaneous reduction of oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and soot emissions could be further enhanced by optimizing the piston bowl design using a 3-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tool. A single-cylinder, direct-injection diesel engine was used for the present investigations.
