Globally supported by public policy and investment, nanomedicine is presented as an ongoing medical revolution that will radically change the practice of health care from diagnostic to therapeutic, and everything in between. One of nanomedicine's major promises is that of personalised medicine, enabling diagnostics and therapeutics tailored to individual needs and developing a truly 'patient-friendly' medical approach. Based on qualitative interviews with nanomedicine researchers in Canada, this article explores the emerging concept of personalised medicine as it becomes entangled with nanomedical research. More precisely, drawing on insights from science studies and the sociology of expectations, it analyses researchers' perceptions of personalised medicine in the cutting edge of current nanomedicine research. Two perceptions of personalisation are identified; a molecular conception of individuality and a technical conception of personalisation. The article concludes by examining the relationship between the two conceptions and contrasts them with the normative reflex of a more expansive conception of personalised medicine.

La médecine prédictive en oncologie, une discipline en construction : quels changements dans les questions éthiques, quel regard sur la vie des individus concernés Résumé. La médecine prédictive a pour but d'identifier des êtres humains à risque de développer une maladie liée à une anomalie génétique mais également de connaître les risques chez de futurs parents de transmission d'un caractère à leur descendance. Dans le contexte de la cancérologie, nous nous intéresserons particulièrement à la question de la validité clinique de ces données, de l'interface entre clinique et recherche que les nouvelles technologies de séquençage amènent. Nous développerons les questionnements éthiques posés par ces nouvelles technologies et leurs changements au cours du temps. Chaque résultat de tests mobilise chez les personnes à risque une réflexion profonde sur son statut, sa liberté de savoir ou de ne pas savoir, sur la tension qu'elle développe entre conscience, liberté et destin. Se pose également la question de la responsabilité vis-à-vis des membres de la famille et également sur les conséquences d'un éventuel nouvel eugénisme libéral qui se développe au côté du développement de la génétique ? Ces nouvelles pratiques s'accompagnent d'une injonction à l'autonomie et un appel au choix des personnes tout en créant une forme de contrainte sur la personne et sa famille individuelle dans une société où la bonne santé est mise en exergue comme valeur primordiale. Nous pourrons ainsi amener un début de réflexion sur la manière de former les populations à la question du risque génétique de l'école à l'âge adulte. Predictive medicine in oncology, a under construction discipline: what changes in ethical questions, what look on the life of individuals concerned?Predictive medicine aims to identify people at risk of developing a disease linked to a genetic abnormality but also know the risks for future transmission of a character's parents to their offspring. In the context of oncology, we will focus particularly on the issue of clinical validity of these data, the interface between clinical and research that the new sequencing technologies lead. We will develop the ethical questions raised by these new technologies and their changes over time. Each test result mobilizes people at risk in a profound reflection on their status, their freedom to know or not to know, the tension that develops between consciousness, freedom and destiny.
