Enlarging left atrial haemangioma in a patient with Cowden syndrome

Abstract: A 53-year-old female patient known to have Cowden disease (PTEN mutation positive) was found to have a mass at the left atrium on a CT coronary angiography performed as part of a preoperative workup for an unrelated surgery. Further radiological characterisation of the lesion was achieved using MRI and positron emission tomography. Interval growth prompted surgical excision; however, surgery was expedited after the patient presented with haemopericardium and cardiac tamponade. The patient was discharged home 8… Show more

“…There have been reports of cardiac hemangiomas showing moderate 18 F FDG‐avidity, 2–4 as well as noncardiac hemangiomas showing 68 Ga Dotatate avidity (up to SUV of 39.8 in an intraosseous hemangioma) 5,6 . However, cardiac hemangioma showing 68 Ga Dotatate binding has not been reported previously; in fact, cardiac hemangiomas are typically cold in such studies 7 . This case is the first reported to demonstrate 68 Ga Dotatate activity in a cardiac hemangioma with confirmation on pathology.…”
