Enormities of Early Marriages of Girls Lensing Physical-Mental Health Impairments

Abstract

Early marriages have long been a source of worry because of the possible negative impacts on one's physical and mental health, especially when they involve females. Child marriage continues to be a common practice in many places, affecting millions of girls globally, despite global attempts to abolish it. Gender inequality, socioeconomic circumstances and cultural expectations are some of the main causes of early marriages. The physiological immaturity of young brides poses risks during pregnancy and childbirth, leading to higher rates of maternal and infant mortality. Legislation and enforcement play a pivotal role in preventing and combating child marriages. This chapter explores existing legal frameworks globally and highlights the importance of stringent laws, effective implementation and awareness campaigns to curb this harmful practice via- Policy Recommendations; Education and Awareness: Support Systems; Community Engagement because early marriages can have profound effects on the physical health of girls.
