BACKGROUND: One of the factors contributing to dengue’s endemicity is the density of the dengue vector, namely, Aedes aegypti as the primary vector and Aedes albopictus as the secondary vector. Bentiring and Kandang Limun villages are high endemic areas of dengue. AIM: This study aimed to determine the relationship between dengue endemicity and density figure (DF) and Maya index (MI) in Bentiring and Kandang Limun villages, Bengkulu city. METHODS: This study used a cross-sectional design. The sampling technique used proportionate stratified sampling. The sampling refers to the guidelines for dengue entomology surveys according to the WHO 1999 criteria. A total of 400 ovitraps were installed, 200 ovitraps inside the house and 200 ovitraps outside the house. RESULTS: The results showed that Bentiring and Kandang Limun villages had a high risk of dengue transmission based on entomological parameters, namely, ovitrap index (OI) 56% and 55% (DF 6), house index (HI) 45% and 44% (DF 6), container index (CI) 23% and 23% (DF 6), and BI 96% and 120% (DF 7 and 8). The areas have a high risk of dengue transmission based on the MI 71% and 76%, respectively. There is a relationship between dengue endemicity and entomological index in Bentiring and Kandang Limun villages, Bengkulu city, with a significance value (p = 0.000) and a powerful correlation (r = 1.000). CONCLUSION: There is a relationship between dengue endemicity and the MI in Bentiring village and Kandang Limun village, Bengkulu city, with a significance value (p = 0.014 and 0.058) and a powerful correlation (r = 0.920 and r = 1.000), respectively. The entomological index and DF are predictors for dengue prevention and control environment to minimize mosquito breeding sites and reduce disease transmission.

Desa Karangsatria Kecamatan Tambun Utara, Kabupaten Bekasi menyumbang kasus Demam Berdarah Dengue (DBD) tertinggi di Kabupaten Bekasi tahun 2017. Tingginya kasus DBD di Desa Karangsatria disebabkan oleh kepadatan penduduk dan kebiasaan membuang sampah sembarangan yang menyebabkan banyak barang-barang tidak terpakai sehingga menjadi tempat berkembang biak nyamuk penyebar DBD meningkat. Vektor yang berperan dalam kasus DBD adalah nyamuk Aedes sp. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui kepadatan populasi jentik Aedes sp dengan menghitung nilai House Index (HI), Container Index (CI), dan Breteau Index (BI). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan desain crossectional serta teknik pengambilan sampel purposive sampling. Penelitian dilakukan di 100 sempel rumah di RT 02 RW 02 wilayah kerja Puskesmas Karang Satria Desa Karangsatria Kecamatan Tambun Utara, Kabupaten Bekasi. Berdasarkan hasil survei, kontainer yang paling banyak ditemukan jentik Aedes sp. adalah ember plastik (58,1%) dan drum air plastik (22,6%). Nilai kepadatan populasi jentik Aedes sp, adalah HI (59%), CI (31%), dan BI (62%). Analisa Density Figure menunjukkan bahwa Desa Karangsatria Kecamatan Tambun Utara, Bekasi berada pada risiko tinggi penularan penyakit DBD.

Aedes aegypti is currently emerging as a main vector of Dengue, Zika, and Chikungunya transmission. Chemical control was reported to be less effective due to the resistance of this mosquito to some types of insecticides. Therefore, another vector control is needed which is most appropriate to be used, i.e. the sterile insect technique (SIT). Information about optimum range dispersal sterile male Aedes aegypti for optimalization SIT program are needed. This study was designed to determine the dispersal pattern and population estimation of Aedes aegypti sterilized with gamma rays using mark-release-recapture (MRR) method. After the male Aedes aegypti (pupal stage) was irradiated with 70 Gy of gamma rays, the mosquitoes were then marked with Rhodamine-B and released into the study site. MRR experiments were carried out in Batan Indah residential area, and the Aedes aegypti were released in center of the site. Mosquitoes were recaptured at 28 points spread over the Batan Indah Residence for 2, 4, 6, and 8 days after release by using BG-Sentinel Traps. The result showed that the population of Aedes aegypti in the site was estimated to be 5.402 (1.347-14.636; CI 95 %) with the furthest spread distance was 119 meters from the release point. This study also showed that the MRR experiment can be used to estimate the population size and dispersal pattern of Aedes aegypti movement in a given locality. The result of present study provide better understanding for optimalization mosquito-borne disease prevention based on SIT programs.
