Entomotoxicological study on the forensic blow flies Chrysomya albiceps associated with dog carcass

Abstract: This study was carried out to identify malathion which may cause the death. Toxicological analysis was applied to the forensicallyimportant blow fly larvae C. albiceps which is the most abundant fly attracted firstly and consume the flesh of carcass as their food substrate. In addition to detection of malathion in tissues of blow fly larvae fed on treateddog carcasses using gas chromatography with flam ionization detector (GCFID.), the effect of this chemical compound on insect succession, frequency of insects… Show more

“…Malathion was noticed in Ch. albiceps maggots and tissues of treated dog carcasses in a research by Fouda et al (2017a), where it dramatically changed the durations of developing stages of flies inhabiting the treated carcass but had no effect on the insect number drawn to the carcasses. Fouda et al (2017b) were also capable to detect ephedrine in Ch.…”

“…It is one of the many tools of forensic science that is divided into medico-legal (criminal), urban, and stored products entomology (Tuccia et al, 2018). Entomotoxicology is a new area of criminal investigation, where entomological evidence is analyzed to determine presence or not of drugs or toxins used prior to death (Fouda et al, 2017;Campobasso et al, 2019;Samnol et al, 2020). Forensic entomotoxicology was used as alternative tools when the carrion is extremely decayed or skeletonized (Basilicata et al, 2019; Wang et al, 2020).…”

“…C. albiceps ies appear early on human corpses and reproduce quickly (Vásquez and Liria, 2012). Furthermore, their larvae are thought to be the most signi cant consumers of decomposing tissues 9 . Aluminum phosphide (AlP), also known as "rice tablet," is a low-cost pesticide that is used as an insecticide, rodenticide, and fumigant for crop protection during storage and transportation 21 .…”

“…Entomotoxicology is focused on analyzing entomological evidence to determine whether or not toxins, drugs, e.g., opiates, were used before death. Notably, the development rate of carrion-feeding insects and toxins' concentrations in their body are evaluated during an investigation, especially when tissue analysis is di cult or even impossible 9 . Therefore, the entomotoxicology and entomological evidence are immensely useful as alternative matrices when the corpse is highly decayed or even skeletonized 10,11 .…”
