Show more

“…We assessed students' psychological strain due to academic procrasti nation using the 10-item modified psychological strain subscale from the Therapy Motivation Questionnaire (FPTM; Schulz et al, 1995;e.g., "I am not able to cope with my dilatory behavior regarding my studies on my own"; α = .94). From the same questionnaire, we used an adapted version of the 7-item hope subscale (e.g., "I have little confidence that my dilatory behavior regarding my studies will change"; α = .86) to measure students' feelings of hope that academic procrastination could be reduced.…”

“…However, according to a critique on the TTM (Brewer & Rimer, 2008;Faltermaier, 2005) and in line with findings from research on the construct of treatment motivation (cf. Drieschner, Lammers, & van der Staak, 2004;Schulz, Nübling, & Rüddel, 1995), there may also be other affective and social variables that indicate different motivations to change. Referring to research on treatment motivation, an individual's level of suffering (Drieschner et al, 2004) or psychological strain (Schulz et al, 1995), as well as an individual's feelings of hope (Schulz et al, 1995), can play a role as affective determinants of treatment motivation.…”

“…We defined a matching range of broadly accepted patient characteristics and controlling variables of the baseline level. Subjects were allocated to the different treatment groups according to the following matching variables: age, duration of hospitalisation, duration of illness, psychopathology (Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale, BPRS) (20), daily dose of antipsychotic medication, motivation (Therapy Motivation Questionnaire, FPTM) (21), and IQ (reduced Wechsler Intelligence Scale, WIP) (22). Therefore, 17 patients had to be excluded from data analysis.…”
