Enumeration and Analysis of DC–DC Converter Implementations Based on Piezoelectric Resonators

Abstract: Demand for power electronics with smaller volume, lighter weight, and lower cost will eventually require new converter energy storage technologies with fundamentally higher power density and efficiency limits. This motivates investigation into piezoelectric resonators (PRs), which offer very high power density and efficiency capabilities and significantly improved scaling properties compared to magnetics. PRs have been used in power conversion previously, but the realm of possible converter implementations usi… Show more

“…At present, there are two main types of soft-switching DC/DC converters on the market: zero-switching PWM and harmonic mode converter [44].The single phase shift modulation method is the earliest phase shift modulation method, which can realize the bidirectional transmission of energy, and its waveform is shown in Fig. 4 (a).…”

“…Pollet et al [14] presented a novel piezoresonator based boost converter, showing significant voltage gain and good efficiency. Boles et al [15] presented several new topologies of PR converters, each offering unique operating voltage ranges, efficiencies and output voltages. Touhami et al [16] presented a new PR converter offering improved performance over those presented by Boles et al, with an output power of 175W at 80% efficiency, significantly higher output power than previous PR converters and higher than PT based converters [17].…”
