“…(Owner, glamping) Furthermore, while research on carbon footprint analysis has primarily been concerned with mainstream hotels and direct business-related emissions (Filimonau et al, 2013), some interviewees suggested that other emission sources should receive similar, if not greater, emphasis. For instance, in line with the findings from Filimonau et al (2021), the sustainability manager of a consultancy firm mentioned the emissions associated with the construction of the hotel building. It should be noted that this interviewee was involved in several construction management plans, but more in-depth research is suggested to explore the issue further.…”

“…Overall, with such a number and variety of activities significantly contributing to carbon emissions, it is unsurprising that accommodation providers find measuring their properties' carbon footprint challenging. To further complicate matters, studies have found that not all hoteliers carry out energy audits (Oluseyi et al , 2016), with some considering data on energy performance commercially sensible (Filimonau et al , 2011), thus making primary data procurement even more demanding (Filimonau et al , 2021). Additional barriers hindering the adoption of carbon reduction and broad environmental strategies include financial constraints (Sureeyatanapas et al , 2021; Khatter et al , 2021; Chan et al , 2020; Subramanian and Abdulrahman, 2017; Chan et al , 2018; Chan, 2021), lack of resources (Khatter et al , 2021; Chan et al , 2020; Chan, 2021; Kragt et al , 2017; Olatunji et al , 2019) and lack of cooperation and support (Khatter et al , 2021; Chan et al , 2020; Subramanian and Abdulrahman, 2017; Olatunji et al , 2019).…”

“…), activities (energy use for transportation of tourists from their accommodations to the sites of activities, for operating restaurants, bars, disco's, cinemas, cable-cars, scenic tours, et cetera)". These four dimensions are not rarely ignored or out of the spotlight of scientific research, perhaps because they are still "hidden" in the diversity and complexity of the products and services of a hotel unit [91]. Perhaps this circumstance explains so many years of scarce scientific work, which has been far from an urgent in-depth study of the above-mentioned critical points.…”

“…Minimal attention has been paid to the impact of hotels water use both cumulatively and at the community level despite a growing literature on environmental impacts of tourism (Hewedi & ElMasry 2019;Cavallin Toscani et al, 2022;Collins & Cooper, 2017). Filimonau et al (2021) suggests this gap exists due to poor data access and limited data quality. As a result, hotels environmental impact assessments are overly generic.…”
