Anaerobic Digestion (AD) has been recognized as a viable solution to produce renewable energy and to reduce global warming especially when secondary feedstock and/or wastes are used. Several LCA studies analysed the environmental performances of biogas production systems. The results of this review highlight that the goal, scope, life cycle impact assessment (LCIA) methodology, feedstocks and geographical regions covered by the studies vary widely. Most studies are based in Europe, several in China and few in South and North America and in Africa. To better highlight how the choices on the feeding mix, the digestate storage, the surplus heat valorisation as well as the plant size can affect the environmental performances of agricultural AD plants four plants have been analyzed in this study. The results suggest that the energy crops production and the operation of anaerobic digesters, including digestate emission from open tanks, are the main contributors to the impacts from biogas electricity. This entails that it is environmentally better to have smaller plants using slurry and waste rather than bigger plants fed with energy crops. Recovering heat waste as well as covering of digestate tank would improve significantly the environmental sustainability of biogas electricity, and particularly the global warming category. <p style="text-align: justify;">Una de las actividades que afectan al ambiente es la actividad agropecuaria, de la cual se desprenden cantidades significativas de contaminantes, principalmente del sector porcícola, por esto se ha planteado como objetivo describir las principales herramientas utilizadas para prevenir, controlar y/o mitigar la contaminación ambiental generada por la porcicultura y analizar su aplicabilidad en el sitio Banasur, del cantón Pasaje a fin de alcanzar el desarrollo sostenible, para ello se procedió a la utilización de un check list, mediante el cual se identificó los principales impactos ambientales producidos por los sistemas de cría de cerdos existentes en el sitio Banasur, obteniéndose como principales impactos: la generación de aguas residuales, contaminación del suelo y del agua, propagación de plagas, olores fétidos, emisión de gases de efecto invernadero y generación de residuos ordinarios y hospitalarios, luego de lo cual se procedió a investigar acerca de las principales herramientas existentes para prevenir, controlar y/o mitigar la contaminación ambiental generada por los planteles porcinos, en base a la información existente en diferentes investigaciones publicadas en revistas científicas indexadas, una vez revisadas se estableció cuáles serían más factibles de implementar en el sitio de estudio, llegando a la conclusión de que las más factibles de implementar son los sistemas de cría de cama profunda, sistemas de tratamiento de aguas residuales y biodigestores, de este último podría obtenerse hasta 216 KW diarios y 78.824 KW al año, energía suficiente para encender un foco de 100 W (0,10 Kw) durante 216 horas.</p>
