Environmental Control System based on mobile devices

Abstract: The impact of the use of mobile devices by means of GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) technology to access environmental information in real time, provided by sensors strategically placed in a metropolitan area has been studied with the objective of using this information to find out rainfall volume and phreatic levels in times of emergency. This allows the technical services to make the correct decisions in the management ofa large network ofpump stations, flood gates, etc. It is demonstrated that this is a… Show more

“…The value of the coordinate can be increased or decreased by one unit, that is to say the value can change up (+1) or down (-1), or can be stay without changes. Taking into account that the coordinates of the nodes are represented in the SAN by tokens and that coordinates can not be negative, the coordinates of the central cell must coincide with the size of the mosaic (work area) desired, i.e if the work area is a T 3 mosaic, the central cell must be (3,3). This work area is shown in Fig.…”

“…The traffic on these networks is composed of control information and the transmission of images. These types of networks are spreading in metropolitan environments, and are usually formed of a principal node denominated central station, different remote stations, and remote clients who are able to remotely monitor or even control the working of the system, see [2,3]. To improve the use of the system, facilitate maintenance and to improve the response to alerts and potential risk situations, the remote stations must have the capacity to exchange information on states between each other and with the central station.…”

“…In this chapter, the requirements that this type of applications make on VAN networks, the different type of technologies that are normally employed and the capacities that they can offer are analyzed. Public networks and Global Wireless networks are analysed in (Sempere et al, 2003) and in (Sempere et al, 2004;Albero et al, 2005) respectively, so in this chapter an special focus is done in WiMAX networks, since they have enormous potential in this area, an area which up to now has been studied very little. Also, the real implementation of a VAN network for the purification network of Valencia City is presented and a video can be seen in extension 1, which shows the real capabilities of this kind of network.…”
