PurposeThe driving force behind this study is the need to learn more about the ways in which green human resource management (GHRM) can impact sustainable corporate performance (SCP), especially in the context of Ho Chi Minh City's manufacturing sector. The primary objective is to analyze the roles of GHRM, green behavior (GBH) and green commitment (GCM) in relation to SCP, as well as identify the mediating roles of green behavior and green commitment in the relationship between GHRM and SCP.Design/methodology/approachThe research design employs a quantitative approach to investigate the nexus of GHRM and SCP, with a focus on the manufacturing sector in Ho Chi Minh City. Methodologically, the study integrates the ability-motivation-opportunity (AMO) and resource-based view (RBV) frameworks to construct a comprehensive theoretical model. Data are gathered from a sample comprising 322 senior managers and directors representing various enterprises. Analysis is conducted utilizing Smart PLS software version 3.3.7, employing partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to assess both first-level and second-level variables in a two-step process.FindingsThe empirical findings underscore significant relationships between GHRM, green behavior, green commitment and SCP. Specifically, the study reveals that GHRM positively influences green behavior, green commitment and SCP. Additionally, both green behavior and green commitment exhibit positive effects on SCP. Furthermore, the research confirms the pivotal mediating roles of green behavior and green commitment in the relationship between GHRM and SCP.Originality/valueIn terms of originality and value, this study makes notable contributions to both theoretical understanding and practical implications in the field of sustainable business management. By delving into the intricate interplay between GHRM, green behavior, green commitment and SCP, this research extends existing knowledge and offers novel insights. Moreover, the identification of the mediating roles of green behavior and green commitment enriches the theoretical frameworks in this domain. The findings provide practical implications for businesses, particularly in Ho Chi Minh City's manufacturing sector, by emphasizing the significance of optimizing human resource practices for achieving sustainable development goals. This research thus contributes to enhancing competitiveness and sustainability in similar industries, offering valuable guidance for strategic decision-making and policy formulation.

The study explores the relationship between corporate social responsibility practice (CSRP), firm performance (FIPE), and environmental, social and governance practice (ESGP) within the context of several developing countries in Asia. Using the Thomson Reuters Eikon database, our focus sample comprised 6927 firms operating in 10 developing Asian countries, namely Indonesia, Israel, Jordan, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Turkey, and Vietnam. After a thorough screening process, a total of 817 firms were included in the final dataset, covering the years 2019 to 2023, resulting in 4085 firm‐year observations. Through the use of maximum likelihood structural equation modeling (ML‐SEM), our findings reveal that CSRP and FIPE positively influence ESGP within the Asian context. Additionally, the FIPE variable demonstrates an additional mediating role in the relationship between CSRP and ESGP. Furthermore, carbon emission (CAEM) plays a significant moderating role in the CSRP‐ESGP nexus. By focusing on enhancing CSRP, FIPE, and reducing CAEM, both businesses and governments can collaboratively work towards advancing sustainability efforts across the region. Therefore, the paper provides insight in this context using empirical evidence from 10 developing Asian countries.

PurposeBased on the Natural resource-based view (NRBV), this study aims to analyze the association between the Sustainable Development Goals related to Gender Equality, Decent Work, Innovation, and Climatic Action in the Food Industry.Design/methodology/approachA quantitative study is adopted based on the 2019 World Bank Enterprise Survey microdata. The database includes 1,242 food enterprises from 16 European Union countries. We applied logistic regression with cluster robust standard errors.FindingsDespite global efforts to promote decent work and gender equity, the anticipated results have not yet been achieved, suggesting varying performance in different contexts. Food firms, characterized by significant environmental impacts and seasonal tasks, employ diverse Human Resource Management (HRM) strategies based on whether they pursue innovation or environmental objectives. Grounded in the NRBV, our findings underscore the importance of investing in qualified workers and offering attractive wages to meet environmental goals, as well as providing stable contracts for female workers. The NRBV framework also highlights the crucial role of product and process innovations, whether green or not, in achieving climate action objectives.Practical implicationsEuropean policies must be adapted to the human resources characteristics in the food industry, providing specific training on environmental and innovation issues and contributing to more work stability and gender equality.Originality/valueOur study applies the NRBV to analyze how human resources and product/process innovations can boost environmental preservation in an industry characterized by strong environmental impacts, seasonal tasks, and financial constraints.
