Abstract: Purpose-The purpose of this paper is to organize the detailed review of economic growth, carbon emission and foreign capital inflows and its impact on the environment. Another objective of the study is to provide the comprehensive bibliography and to analyze the findings and results of the studies undertaken in review. Design/methodology/approach-This paper examined 111 research papers from a sample of thousands of papers, based on inclusion criteria, in this area of research. These 111 research papers are cat… Show more

“…Some other researchers focused on the study of the linkage between the environmental performance and the variables macroeconomic as the foreign direct investment, the trade openness, the investment, and the CO2 emissions. In which, the results drawn by Altwaijri et al, (2004), Bohringer andOchem, (2007), Sugiawan et al, (2019), Churchill et al, (2019), He et al, (2019a), Miao et al, (2019), Saini and Sighania (2019), Ershad and Haque (2019), Yang et al, (2019), and He et al, (2019b), indicate a positive interactions between the variables.…”

“…The direct effect is mainly concerned with the increased transportation resulting from foreign trade which intensifies pollution. Moreover, the indirect effects are as follows: scale (increase in the economic activity due to increased involvement in trade depresses environmental sustainability), technique (transfer of novel production techniques that positively affect environmental sustainability), lastly, composition (as a result of trade, specialisation occurs, therefore, this can result in less energy intensive production, hence decreasing the pressure on the environment) effects (Gallagher, 2009; Saini & Sighania, 2019). Another hypothesis that is tested in the literature to investigate the impacts of foreign capital inflows or FDIs on the environment is the pollution haven hypothesis (PHH).…”
