The objective of this study is to explore the interconnections among three pertinent topics in contemporary public policy, particularly within the European context: employability, entrepreneurship, and regional development. Initially, we conduct a bibliometric analysis to identify the primary trends in this field. Subsequently, we present and analyze a case study, namely the Innovation and Talent Retour Program (PIRT 2022), which is a public initiative aimed at attracting university graduates with prior international experience. This program is part of the Entrepreneurial Culture Programs offered by the Autonomous Community of Extremadura, located in Spain. By employing a questionnaire based on the EntreComp framework and involving a sample of university graduates’ beneficiaries of the program, we validate the measurement scale and investigate whether this project contributes to the development of entrepreneurial competencies among the participants. The insights gained from the obtained results inform future programs within the region, as well as other regions undergoing similar processes. This study delves into the theoretical and practical aspects of the role played by universities as key agents in fostering the sustainability of their respective territories. It is concluded that higher education must even assume a more proactive role in the future concerning the employability of its graduates and the overall development of the surrounding region in which it is located.

El estudio surge por la necesidad de que los gobiernos de la región impulsen políticas que fomenten la adopción de prácticas sustentables por parte del sector privado. Algunos de los trabajos en los que se basa el presente artículo han sido los de Alizadeh, (2022), Bux et al. (2020)., Costache et al. (2021), y Zou et al. (2021). Los objetivos de esta investigación fueron evaluar las prácticas sustentables implementadas por las empresas, e investigar la relación de las prácticas sustentables con el nivel educativo universitario del responsable de la empresa, con la longevidad de la empresa, con el porcentaje de mujeres empleadas, con la falta de conocimiento y con la falta de recursos financieros. Para ello, se relevó una encuesta a empresas de la región de La Plata en noviembre de 2022, utilizando un enfoque de investigación cuantitativa y un modelo logit binario. Los resultados destacaron una mayor implementación de prácticas sostenibles en áreas como el compromiso con los clientes, el cumplimiento de regulaciones y prácticas laborales. Entre las variables estudiadas, solo la antigüedad de la empresa y la falta de conocimiento demostraron ser estadísticamente significativas para explicar el nivel de implementación de prácticas sostenibles. De esta manera, se corroboraron investigaciones anteriores (Alizadeh, 2022; Costache et al., 2021; Mahmood et al., 2021; Peter, 2017; Yeh et al., 2014).

The COVID-19 pandemic is expected to have a significant impact on most sharing economy activities, and at present, it is particularly challenging to achieve a consensual model to predict sharing economy behaviour. Based on empirical and theoretical premises established before the pandemic, we intend to explore the association between a set of psychosocial variables (i.e., cooperation, environmental awareness, past behaviour) and sharing economy behaviour, particularly the use of shared assets (i.e., cars and accommodation) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, the present study analyses the mediating role of transformation expectations, as the decision to engage or not in sharing behaviour may be influenced by beliefs about the consequences of those actions from the user’s perspective. This study comprised a total of 596 participants. Data was collected through a self-administered questionnaire and was statistically analysed and interpreted using PLS 3.0. Structural Equation Modelling statistical software. Contrary to our predictions, the results show that cooperation negatively influenced the willingness to participate in sharing activities during the COVID-19 pandemic, that environmental awareness was not a significant predictor, and that past sharing behaviour has the strongest influence on the willingness to share during pandemic times. Finally, the mediating effect of transformation expectations was significant in both associations, i.e., pro-environmental consciousness and past sharing experiences, and the willingness to adopt sharing behaviour during COVID-19.
