Environmental sustainability disclosures in annual reports of mining companies listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX)

Abstract: Mining companies use environmental sustainability reporting to inform their stakeholders about their position in relation to environmental sustainability. This paper explores how these companies include topics related to the environment and its protection in their annual reports. “…The current study employed a technique of counting and recording the number of mentions for each content or capital category to determine the extent of disclosure and the most disclosed content/capital. The technique of counting mentions was also employed by Miklosik and Evans (2021) in a study where they explored how some mining companies that were listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) incorporated topics that are related to the environment and its protection in their integrated reports.
