Enzymatic Composition of Canine Leg Lymph

Abstract: In an experimental study employing anaesthetised dogs, lymph from the deep lymphatic system in a hind leg was sampled at 15-min intervals. Lymph and corresponding plasma samples were analysed for ten different enzymes and for protein. In a control group a preliminary period of 15-min lymph collections was followed by 1 h of ‘rest’ (no passive movement of leg) and restoration of the lymph flow for another 2 h. In a hypoxic group during the 1 h of‘rest’ the blood supply of a hind limb was interrupted to cause an… Show more

“…Lymph-plasma ratios in excess of unity indicate that the molecule derives primarily from the interstitial space. We recently introduced choline esterase äs a more reliable marker than plasma prpteins (21). Choline esterase is exclusively synthesised in liver.…”

“…Hitherto, however, lymph seems to be a forgotten organ and only a few grpups have paid attention to the effect of physical activity on enzyme activities in this extracellular fluid compartment (10,(21)(22)(23)(24)(25)(26)(27).…”

“…For anaesthetized rats the only reported data are severely affected by methods of sample preparation (69). For mouse thoracic duct lymph, we recently reported selected catalytic activities in lymph and plasma of short-term fistulized animals (70).…”
