Enzymatic hydrolysis of non-treated sugarcane bagasse using pressurized liquefied petroleum gas with and without ultrasound assistance

Abstract: a b s t r a c tIn this work the enzymatic hydrolysis of sugarcane bagasse using pressurized liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and ultrasound assisted pressurized LPG (US assisted-LPG) to obtain fermentable sugar in a unique step was investigated. For this purpose, non-treated sugarcane bagasse was used for enzymatic hydrolysis in a fixed-bed bioreactor. Several experiments were carried out to investigate the influence of moisture content, enzyme load and pressure on the yield of fermentable sugar after the hydroly… Show more

“…da Silva et al (2015) evaluated the influence of temperature and pressure on perilla oil extraction using compressed n-propane gas. The experiments were performed using a temperature range of 40-80°C and pressures of 8-16 MPa at a constant flow rate of 1.0 cm 3 /min n-propane.…”

“…Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is characterized by a mixture of propane and n-butane, and it has been used as fuel for heating appliances and for cooking food (Silva et al, 2015). Silva et al (2015) evaluated the use of LPG to treat some enzymes high pressure to increase their catalytic power; LPG increased the processing speed. Soares et al (2015) used CO 2 and compressed LPG to obtain rice bran oil and concluded that the fatty acid profiles were similar.…”

“…Xylose is a sugar purified from plants, which constitutes the hemicellulose, one of the main components of lignocellulose (Carlos, et, al 2012). Xylose has wide food, medicinal, and industrial applications (Silva et al, 2015). For example, xylose is an ideal alternative to regular table sugar as it is safe, healthier and toxin-free, and is not associated with obesity or other medical conditions commonly associated with sugar such as diabetes.…”

“…Wheat straw contains about 32.8% cellulose, 36.8% hemicellulose and 16.8% lignin. These components cannot be easily separated without altering hemicellulose, which is closely bound to lignocellulosic components (Silva et al, 2015).…”
