Enzyme-Assisted Extraction of Phenolics from Capparis spinosa Fruit: Modeling and Optimization of the Process by RSM and ANN

Abstract: The current study intends to appraise the effect of enzyme complexes on the recovery of phenolics from Capparis spinosa fruit extract using the response surface methodology (RSM) and artificial neural networking (ANN). Enzymatic treatment of C. spinosa fruit extract was optimized under a set of conditions (enzyme concentration, pH, temperature, and time) against each enzyme formulation such as Kemzyme Plus Dry, Natuzyme, and Zympex-014. The extract yield observed f… Show more

“…The various R 2 values represent the degree of interpretation concerning the mean that the model can explain. For a fair level of agreement, the maximum expected difference between adjusted R 2 and predicted R 2 is 0.2; otherwise, it may indicate a problem with the model or the experimental data used to create the model [ 22 ]. The model is more accurate if adjusted R 2 and projected R 2 values are near 1.…”

“…The mass spectrum was scanned (at a rate of 1.5 scans/s) from m/z 50 to 650. The bioactive compounds were identified by matching their retention times with those of pure standards as well as by comparing MS spectra with those available in mass spectrum library of the machine and quantified by the percent peak area of the signals for characterized compounds [54] …”

“…In the first step, the nonpolar phase of the emulsion was prepared by the dry gum method. 14 The fine powder of acacia gum was triturated with oil using a mortar and pestle. In the second step, the polar phase was made by thoroughly mixing honey and plant extract until the formation of a homogenous mixture.…”
