Epidemiological characteristics and diagnostic approach in patients admitted to the emergency room for transient loss of consciousness: Group for Syncope Study in the Emergency Room (GESINUR) study
Abstract:Adherence to clinical guidelines for syncope management was low; many diagnostic tests were performed with low diagnostic yield. Important differences were observed between syncope diagnoses at the ED and by SC decision.
“…The explanation for this could lie in a higher familiarity among TC physicians with this test, or a higher adherence to clinical guidelines. However, the rate of patients with CSM in both groups was higher to the one reported in previous studies (36% in the PICTURE Registry [11]) or in studies about syncope conducted in Emergency Units in Spain (0.4% in the GESINUR Study [13]). …”
Background: The implantable loop recorder (ILR) is a useful tool for diagnosis of syncope or palpitations. Its easy use and safety have extended its use to secondary hospitals (those without an Electrophysiology Lab (Cardiol J 2015; 22, 3: 241-246)

“…11 Despite the recommendation for HUT in patients with unexplained syncope and NH, only 36% of the present patients in the NH subgroup underwent this test before ILR implantation.…”
“…The role of the AECG is to identify Symptom/rhythm correlation remains the cornerstone of the diagnostic efforts in syncope to confirm the involvement of the cardiac electrical system in the origin of syncope (Morillo & Baranchuk, 2004 (2015) nature (Baron-Esquivias et al, 2010). (Morillo & Baranchuk, 2004).…”
