Aim To identify and document patients' care needs, it is vital to provide quality care services. This study was aimed to describe care needs derived from records of patients with burn and to evaluate whether nurses employed the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association classification to formulate patients' care needs. Design A descriptive cross‐sectional study. Methods In this study using the convenient sampling method, 430 nursing records reviewed in the burn wards. Data were collected using Gordon's checklist. The validity of the checklist assessed by content validity and the reliability of them calculated with inter‐rater and internal consistency. Data analysed by SPSSv.24. Results The mean number of diagnoses per record was 1.94. The most frequent diagnosis was in the domain of Safety/Protection and the top two prevalent nursing diagnoses in Sina hospital were a risk for infection and risk for falls. From all of the detected diagnostic, about 83% were determinedly not related to one of 247 labels of the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association. Given that nurses provide nursing care as requested by physicians and patient care needs are not assessed and recorded by them, it can be concluded that there was no nursing thinking behind their nursing care.

Research over the last 50 years has led to significant improvements in outcomes for burn victims. Advances in infection control, attenuation of the hypermetabolic response, and new improved surgical approaches have led to decreased morbidity and mortality. Early wound excision eliminates the devitalized tissue, which is the main reservoir for pathogen propagation. Immediate autografting reestablishes the natural barrier of the skin, which blocks pathogen access to the host. Advances in burn care have increased treatment options for patients with devastating injuries presenting with multiple comorbidities. Over the last 20 years, negative pressure assisted wound therapy (NPWT) has shown to improve wound management and healing as well as decrease the length of recovery in burn patients. As NPWT applications evolve, the development of negative pressure wound therapy with instillation and dwell time (NPWTi-d) for the management of complex and infected wounds has proven vital for patient care.We present the case of a 68-year-old male patient presenting with a three-day-old third-degree burn wound spanning 46% of the total body surface area (TBSA). After the infected wound was treated unsuccessfully with the standard of care (excision, debridement, and grafting), the team utilized NPWTi-d in order to mitigate the infection and promote the formation of granulation tissue, leading to the successful grafting of the burn wound.NPWTi-d was a useful adjunct in treating and stimulating wound healing in a complex patient. This is the first case report of its kind, utilizing a whole-body vacuum assisted closure (VAC) with NPWTi-d, with successful results showing a decreased bacterial burden, decreased morbidity and mortality, and patient wound closure.

Burns causes a significant number of mortality and morbidity, especially in developing countries, such as Indonesia. The majority of burns in Indonesia are caused by LPG-related (liquefied petroleum gas) flame (33%). Since the first management of burn will influence its outcome, health promotion efforts to improve knowledge to prevent burns and to provide first aid for burn is considered important to reduce morbidity and mortality. This was a descriptive study conducted in a Sub-district in Indonesia using a one-day community health promotion event as the intervention period Oktober 2018. The aim of this study was to compare the knowledge level regarding burn prevention and first management before and after the health promotion event. Respondents were recruited purposively (n=61) and a pre-event questionnaire were distributed to be filled out. Demographic data showed that 31% of participants had experienced burns in the past; 100% of participants used 3kg LPG gas tank in their home; 98% of participants had never been taught on how to handle an emergency situation or how to arrange an evacuation route; and 100% of participants felt that their neighborhood did not provide facilities for burn management. A post-event questionnaire was then distributed and results were compared. A significant improvement of knowledge was seen with an increase of median score from 2.0 to 9.0 (p<0.001). In conclusion, despite the fact that all participants used 3 kg LPG gas tank, they do not have proper knowledge regarding prevention or management of burns and that a one-day health promotion event can increase this knowledge significantly. AbstrakLuka bakar merupakan sebuah masalah yang menyebabkan morbiditas dan mortalitas tinggi di negara berkembang, termasuk Indonesia. Mayoritas luka bakar (33%) diakibatkan oleh api dari ledakan tabung gas LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) 3 kg dan mayoritas rumah tangga menggunakannya. Pelaksanaan penyuluhan mengenai pencegahan dan penanganan awal diharapkan dapat menurunkan angka morbiditas dan mortalitas akibat luka bakar. Penelitian deskriptif ini bertujuan membandingkan tingkat pengetahuan tentang pencegahan luka bakar dan manajemen pertama sebelum dan setelah acara promosi kesehatan Penelitian ini dilakukan di Kelurahan/Desa Babakan Sari, Antapani, Bandung pada bulan Oktober 2018 untuk mengedukasi dan meningkatkan pengetahuan responden. Dari total 61 responden (45 wanita dan 16 pria) dengan mayoritas responden berusia di atas 60 tahun (45.9%), didapatkan 32.8% responden pernah mengalami luka bakar, 100% responden menggunakan gas LPG 3 kg, 98% peserta tidak pernah mendapatkan penyuluhan mengenai penanganan luka bakar, dan 100% peserta merasa tidak ada fasilitas penanganan kebakaran di wilayah mereka. Pengetahuan responden dinilai sebelum dan sesudah dilakukan penyuluhan dan didapatkan peningkatan secara signifikan dan bermakna (p<0.001).
