Epidemiology of suicide and attempted suicide derived from the health system database in the Islamic Republic of Iran: 2001–2007

Abstract: Suicide is an important public health problem worldwide. A retrospective study from March 2001 to March 2007 examined some characteristics of cases of suicide and attempted suicide in the Islamic Republic of Iran based on the health system database of 41 medical universities. Although few studies dealt with the temporal trend of suicide in Iran, the majority didn't use accurate statistical analysis (25)(26)(27)(28), some study seasonal pattern (29), and in a recent one which temporal trend in provinces level across the country trends assessed by developed method, the time span of study was so short that validity of the analysis is uncertain (10).
