Epilepsy and neurodegenerative diseases in adults: a clinical review

Abstract: Neurodegenerative disorders in adults are progressively recognized as one of the major causes of epilepsy. Improved health care, resulting in increased longevity, will unavoidably lead to an increase of epilepsy cases in the elderly. For example, in Alzheimer's disease, almost 10% of the patients present with seizures, eventually necessitating an antiepileptic treatment.
