Epitaxial Growth of High-J c NdBa2Cu3O7−δ Films on RABiTS by Pulsed Laser Deposition

Abstract: NdBa 2 Cu 3 O 7-d (NdBCO) films were grown on rolling-assisted biaxially textured substrates (RABiTS) via pulsed laser deposition. c-Axis-oriented epitaxial NdBCO films with high performance were obtained under optimal deposition conditions. Transmission electron microscopy analysis shows that the NdBCO film grown on RABiTS has a clear interface with a CeO 2 cap layer and a nearly perfect lattice structure. The NdBCO film exhibits higher T c of 93.7 K and better in-field J c in magnetic fields and at all field… Show more

“…An hour of annealing at 475 o C corresponds to d between 268nm and 840nm, comparable to the typical thickness of 200-400nm of our films. In most reported work on PLD REBCO films [27,28], several (less than 5) hours were found to be enough for full oxidation to a stable Tc and Jc, which is consistent with our observation with pure YbBCO films.…”

“…In PLD-films, the effective diffusion coefficient was found to be less than an order of magnitude smaller than D ab , but much greater than D c of a single crystal [26], suggesting that despite a predominant c-axis texture, the island growth leaves enough diffusion channels along the c-axis such as island junctions and/or threading dislocations, all of which contribute to enhance D c . 10 [27,28], several (less than 5) hours were found to be enough for full oxidation to a stable T c and J c , which is consistent with our observation with pure YbBCO films.…”
