ePTFE stent graft in non-steno-occlusive arterial disease: 2 centers retrospective study

Abstract: Endovascular application of Fluency stent graft seems to offer an effective, and durable less invasive alternative to standard surgical techniques for the treatment of peripheral aneurysms, pseudoaneurysms, iatrogenic arteriovenous fistulae and arterial ruptures, or penetrating injuries.

“…EVT has been accepted as a minimally invasive procedure for SFA pseudoaneurysm. Authors had described a high long-term primary patency of EVT for SFA pseudoaneurysm, ranging from 77.1% to 100% [1–4] . Placement of a covered stent–graft has become common and is considered a treatment option for traumatic SFA pseudoaneurysm [1,3,7] .…”

“…[ 1 ] Recently, covered stenting has been applied as an alternative to open surgery (OS) to exclude pseudoaneurysm of superficial femoral artery (SFA). [ 2 , 3 ] The main advantages of endovascular treatment (EVT) are low complication rates and excellent short-term outcomes. [ 4 ] Several works have reported acceptable long-term results, with 3-year patency rates ranging from 77.1% to 100%.…”

“…13 Another concern is the rate of occlusion of these stents, with reported incidence of up to 17%. 14 Recent technological advances involve endovascular techniques using flow-modulating stents. These stents have multiple layers specifically designed to reduce the velocity of flow in the interior of the aneurysm sac, provoking thrombosis and maintaining the flow through the principal artery and its branches.…”

“…2,3 Traditionally surgical repair was the gold standard for these lesions but within the last decade endovascular stenting with stent-grafts has been performed effectively as an alternative. 2,48 Endovascular technique is the leading treatment method and surgery has become a complementary technique recently. Treatment method of injured peripheral arteries should be decided on a case-by-case basis according to local expertise.…”
