Equifinality, sloppiness, and emergent structures of mechanistic soil biogeochemical models

Abstract: Biogeochemical models increasingly consider the microbial control of carbon cycling in soil. The major current challenge is to validate mechanistic descriptions of microbial processes and predicted system responses against experimental observations.
