Equilibrium and Kinetic Adsorption Study of the Removal of Orange-G Dye Using Carbon Mesoporous Material

Abstract: Mesoporous carbon CMK-3 was synthesized by using SBA-15 silica mesoporous as hard template and characterized through nitrogen adsorption/desorption and low angle X-ray diffraction. As-prepared material with large pores and high surface area was used to remove Orange G dye from aqueous solution. Adsorption experiments were carried out as batch studies at variety of contact times, pH, initial dye concentrations, temperatures and salt concentrations. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were employed to simula… Show more

“…The initial faster rate may be due to the accessibility of uncovered surface area of the adsorbent. Because of the adsorption kinetics depends on the nature and the concentration of the active sites of the adsorbent, which are responsible for the interaction with Orange G. The same trend is observed for the adsorption of Orange G dye using carbon mesoporous material [7]. Fig.…”

“…A similar effect was observed for low concentration of electrolyte in the case of OG adsorption on mesoporous carbon. For the same system, the electrolyte in high concentrations has an opposite effect namely contributes to the reduction of the dye molecule dissociation and this effect causes the increase of dye adsorption on mesoporous adsorbent [9].…”

“…Mesoporous-activated carbon of various origins was tested for OG [7][8][9][10][11]. The maximum adsorption capacity of these activated carbon adsorbents, from 9.129 to 236.07 mg g −1 [7,8], is still lower than that of some functionalized adsorbents.…”

“…These contradictory results were due to the different bonding behaviour and bond strength between dye molecules and the adsorbent. 39,40 Maximum uptake capacity, i.e. dye uptake per gram of adsorbent, for the treated WH stems and AC adsorbent was 104.2 mg g -1 and 10.4 mg g -1 respectively, at 27°C.…”
