Traditional construction solutions face increasing competition from more ecological materials such as construction systems based on wood. Thanks to the numerous favourable properties of wood, wood construction enjoys great popularity and allows building economical and modern constructions that are durable and contribute to an ecological future. This study is motivated by the need for innovative solutions in construction and offers numerous findings based on examining actual constructions based on wood. By examining the interactions among selected factors of constructions and their users, the study reacts to the global challenges that call for increased efficiency and sustainability in construction. The examination of the interactions among the selected factors offers more extensive knowledge in the field of constructions based on wood and points towards possible innovative approaches for more sustainable housing and for a more efficient construction industry. The analyses showed that the key aspects that determine the sustainability of housing from the perspective of users are the standard of construction workmanship and construction time, which depend on the choice of construction system, cost-efficiency of use, and material composition and floor plan design. These aspects also interacted with other technical and design aspects, which also played an important role in the perception of housing sustainability.

The mathematical model of a wood polymeric sand composite has been developed, which allows studying the thermal insulation properties of a composite material, taking into account the ratio of wood filler to the other components, the method for obtaining samples, and the type of wood filler. The technique of modeling and analysis of the obtained results is given. By mathematical modeling it was established that the wood polymeric sand composite has thermal insulation properties 2-3 times better than that of construction materials based on concrete. Construction materials based on the developed composite have a higher heat capacity than pure wood, which allows them to better maintain the constancy of the temperature inside the premises with significant daily fluctuations in the external temperature. A series of practical tests were conducted to evaluate the reliability of the results obtained. The discrepancy between theoretical and practical results does not exceed 5%.

Composite Railroad Ties Obtained by the Energy Efficient Recycle of Wooden Railroad Ties

The article presents the result of research in the field of processing wooden railroad ties and thermoplastic polymer household waste with obtaining composite railroad ties under conditions of energy efficiency of technological processes. The wood of the used wooden ties contains a significant proportion of chemical compounds based on creosote. As a result of the thermal and mechanical action, the creosote compounds in the wood form hydrophobic surfaces, thereby fulfilling the function of the bonding additives. Under the above-mentioned conditions, hydrogen bonds are formed between the components of the wood composite, that, in its turn, allows achieving the task of creating a functional composite, which varies in the compound of elements and the modes of production processes. Experimental studies were held on the nature of justification and correction of theoretical studies. The experimental stand of composite production is realized on the principle of energy efficient cooling cycles of the obtained composite with heat transfer for heating the initial components. The obtained results of experimental studies exceed the regulation values by every measure. The comparison justifies the quality of the experimental samples obtained with respect to these values.
