Er3+ ion doped low phonon energy glass as a white light emitter

Abstract: White light emitters remain in the need of continual development and research for new materials. In this context, a low phonon energy glass containing Er 3+ ions was prepared using the conventional melt/casting technique. The chemical compositions of the synthesized materials were analyzed using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) measurements. X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) pattern strongly affirms the non-crystalline essence of the produced materials. The behavior of both density and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectros… Show more

“…Hence, the located bands at 838 (11,933 cm −1 ), 908 (11,013 cm −1 ), and 1058 nm (9452 cm −1 ) are assigned to 2 2 , 2 2 , and 2 2 transitions respectively 73 75 . The others appeared bands in the ErCoCu3 glass at 314, 354, 384, 414, 492, 522, 548, 984, and 1540 & 1584 nm are assigned to the transition in Er 3+ ion from the ground state 4 I 15/2 to the excited states 2 D 3/2 , 2 K 15/2 , 4 G 11/2 , 4 F 3/2 , 4 F 7/2 , 2 H 11/2 , 4 S 3/2 , 4 I 11/2 , and 4 I 13/2 respectively 58 , 59 , 76 , 77 . In the ErCoCu4, ErCoCu5, and ErCoCu6 glasses, which contain a mixture of Co and Cu ions, the same broadbands are formed as shown in Fig.…”

“…12 18 , 31 . While the Urbach energy results were calculated through the slope reciprocal resulting from the relationship between the absorption coefficient logarithm and the photon energy 32 – 35 . The observed reduction in the optical band gap with the rise in the concentration of the Ni ions attributed to the creation of a great number of donor centers; consequently, the excited states of localized electrons originally trapped on Ni 2+ positions initiate to overlap with the unfilled 3d states on the neighboring impurity sites.…”

“…The glass heat treatment temperature that was chosen according to a previous published paper contains a similar phosphate glass composition prepared at the same conditions in our lab. T g was found to be around 360 °C while T c of such glasses was found to be around 480 °C [21]. In this work, the samples were poured around T g and cooled at a slow rate of cooling, which allowed the crystalline phase to be formed.…”
