Eradication of HCV Infection with the Direct-Acting Antiviral Therapy in Renal Allograft Recipients

Abstract: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection unfavorably affects the survival of both renal patients undergoing hemodialysis and renal transplant recipients. In this subset of patients, the effectiveness and safety of different combinations of interferon-free direct-acting antiviral agents (DAAs) have been analyzed in several small studies. Despite fragmentary, the available data demonstrate that DAA treatment is safe and effective in eradicating HCV infection, with a sustained virologic response (SVR) rates nearly 95% a… Show more

“…Nowadays EUS is considered very accurate for T staging, because it can precisely define the degree of tumor penetration into the various layers of the rectal wall [37, 38, 39, 40, 41]. MRI is the best method to define distance of the mesorectal fascia from the lateral margin of the tumor and so to determine which patients can benefit from neoadjuvant therapy.…”

“…HBV is considered an oncogenic virus, but its carcinogenic action is the result of its interaction with the presence of cirrhosis and with the host immune system[7,9,10,57-64]. In the absence of specific treatments, HBsAg positive cirrhotic patients develop HCC at a rate of about 2% per year in western countries and 3% in eastern countries[49].…”
