“…The existence of the high fraction interface structure can achieve higher hardness to obtain higher H/E and H 3 /E 2 ratios. A recent study by H. Guo et al [ 51 ] showed that the CrAlN/CrN multilayer coating with the advantages of high hardness and high fracture toughness could improve the erosion resistance. The interface in the multilayer coating effectively hindered the propagation of the crack, and therefore increased the erosion resistance of the coatings.…”

“…This research of AlCrCN coating was conducted in two parts: (1) assessing the effects of the C 2 H 2 gas flow rate under a DC bias of −60 V and (2) assessing the effects of substrate bias voltage (−40 to −120 V) with the C 2 H 2 flow rate fixed at 5 sccm. The working pressure was maintained at roughly 0.4 Pa through the injection of a gas mixture comprising Ar (160 sccm), N 2 (160 sccm), and C 2 H 2 (5,8,10,13,15, or 20 sccm). The rotating speed of the substrate holder was 3 rpm at a temperature of 200 • C. The crystalline structure of the AlCrCN layers was characterized using a grazing incidence X-ray diffractometer (GIXRD, PANalytical, X'pert MRD, Almelo, The Netherlands) with an incident angle of 0.5.…”

“…Researchers have demonstrated the superiority of ternary transition metal nitride coatings over their binary counterparts [3][4][5]. The hardness and thermal stability of AlCrN can be enhanced by making adjustments to metastable Al x Cr 1-x N solid solutions and nanoscale domains [6].…”

“…19 Additionally, an increased Al content is beneficial for the partial segregation of Al atoms along grain boundaries, leading to the formation of a continuous amorphous AlN network and further enhancing the strength of the coating. 20 Guo et al 21 investigated the corrosion resistance of CrN, CrAlN, and CrAlN/CrN multilayer coatings and found that the addition of Al significantly improved the hardness, fracture toughness, and corrosion resistance of the CrN coating. Moreover, the corrosion resistance of CrAlN/CrN multilayer coatings was further enhanced through a strategic structural design.…”
