Erosion of Coastal Slope in the Zelenka locality, Northern Black Sea Coast of Bulgaria

Abstract: The study covers a coastal slope along the northern Bulgarian Black Sea coast near Cape Kaliakra, Zelenka locality. The slope is composed of Miocene (Sarmatian), unconsolidated aragonite sediments with limestone interbeds (Topola Formation) and a steep limestone rock ridge (Karvuna Formation). Water flows along the surface of the slope, attached to the karstified and cracked limestones of the two formations. An assessment was made of the material eroded from the slope, composed of aragonite sediments of the To… Show more

“…Part of the town-from the plateau on the slopes to the sea-consists of a deluvial cover several meters thick (Cheshitev et al 1991). The aragonite sediments (Koleva-Rekalova 1994; Nankin et al 2022;Yaneva et al 2019) of the Topola Formation (N 1 s ), which are characterized by special physical and mechanical indicators, are of great importance for the landslide processes. They are unstable to dynamic impacts.…”

“…Outside of the tourist season, risk profiles are generated for the summer that take into account the perception of danger. [1,2,9,18,19,20,27] Several official papers and the project's outcomes listed in the references serve as the foundation for the input data used in risk assessment: The National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy, and Geography at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences; the Geological Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences; the EU SCHEMA Project (Scenarios for Hazard-Induced Emergencies Management, Contract No. 030963 with the EU under the FP6 Priorities); and others.…”
