Erosion wear behaviour of A357/fly ash composites

Abstract: In this article, a new metal–matrix composite was developed with fly ash (an industrial waste from petroleum industries) as reinforcement and aluminium metal (A357) as a matrix by squeeze casting technique. This study was concentrated on the processing of the composites with different weight percentage ranging from 0 to 10 wt.% in a step of 2.5 each and also reported the erosion wear behaviour. Solid particle erosion of A357/fly ash composites was carried out with four velocities (48, 70, 82 and 109 m/s), at i… Show more

“…The special properties of the hollow structure include lightness, rigidity and compression resistance, as well as strength, which makes it an ideal reinforcing material that can be added to composites to enhance their properties. The application of this reinforcing material can realize two purposes: on the one hand, it can reduce the density of the composite material and lower the weight; on the other hand, it can improve the mechanical properties and energy-absorbing properties of the composite material [31,32]. However, there are few studies on the reinforcement of fly ash hollow beads in rubber powder epoxy composites.…”

“…The mechanical and surface properties of 8000 series aluminium alloys were enhanced through the incorporation of ceramic particles, such as Al 2 O 3 [13], SiC [14,15], TiO 2 [16], Si 3 N 4 /ZrB 2 [17], B 4 C [18] and TiB 2 [19]. AMCs are presently manufactured using different methods such as mechanical alloying, additive manufacturing [20,21], stir casting [22], compo casting [23], powder metallurgy [24], squeeze casting [25], and spray deposition [26].…”
