Erratum to: A simple method to evaluate the number of bradyrhizobia on soybean seeds and its implication on inoculant quality control

Abstract: CorrectionThe authors regret that an error appears in Penna etal. (2011). The fourth sentence in the section Formulation and evaluation of the selective medium "This compound was initially solubilized in 98% ethanol, sterilized using 0.2 μm filters, added to 45°C YEM medium, and homogenized to obtain a final concentration of 0,2 g.l-1 of PCNB into the P-YEM medium". Must be replaced by the following "A solution of 10% PCNB in acetone, was diluted 1/5 in Tween 80 0,5%v/v in water, sterilized using 0.2 μm filte… Show more

“…A limited specificity can be achieved if employing selective growth media for the strain of interest. For B. japonicum for example, the suppression of most fungi and Gram‐positive bacteria was achieved by adding pentachloronitrobenzene and vancomycin to the yeast–mannitol medium, thus making plate counts more specific (Penna et al ., ). Culturing on solid medium may be performed in a higher throughput when preparing samples in multiwell plates, using multichannel pipettes and incubating droplets of small volumes (5–10 μl) instead of streaking the sample (Herigstad et al ., ; Nocker et al ., ).…”

“…Yeast extract mannitol broth was supplemented with varying concentrations of NaCl (0.1, 0.5, 1, 2, 4%) to assess tolerance of Rhizobium to salt (Penna et al 2011). A 1 ml of 24 hours old culture was then inoculate on the sterile medium and incubated at 25 o C after which the absorbance was read on the spectrophotometer (Corning Calorimeter 253) at 420 nm to determine the number of cell capable of surviving the osmotic pressure using Shoukry et al (2013) method.…”
