Erratum to: “Inclusive production of single hadrons with finite transverse momenta in deep-inelastic scattering at next-to-leading order” [Nucl. Phys. B 711 (2005) 345]

Abstract: We calculate the cross section for the inclusive production of single hadrons with finite transverse momenta in deep-inelastic scattering at next-to-leading order (NLO), i.e. through O(α 2 s ), in the parton model of QCD endowed with nonperturbative parton distribution functions (PDFs) and fragmentation functions (FFs). The NLO correction is found to produce a sizeable enhancement in cross section, of up to one order of magnitude, bringing the theoretical prediction to good agreement with recent measurements f… Show more

“…We calculated the cross section of ep → eπ 0 + X in DIS for finite values of p * T at LO and NLO in the parton model of QCD [5] using the new AKK FFs [1] and compared it with a precise measurement by the H1 Collaboration at HERA [7,8].…”

“…[5], the H1 data [7,8] were compared with NLO predictions evaluated with the KKP FFs [2]. In Section 2, we present an update of this comparison based on the new AKK FFs [1].…”

“…That applies to large Q 2 processes, in a kinematical regime in which P T ≃ Λ QCD ≃ k ⊥ , where P T = |P T | is the magnitude of the final hadron transverse momentum. In this region QCD factorization with unintegrated distributions holds [7] and lowest order QED elementary processes, ℓ q → ℓ q, are dominating: the soft P T of the detected hadron is mainly originating from quark intrinsic motion [8,9,10], rather than from higher order pQCD interactions, which, instead, would dominantly produce large P T hadrons [11,13,14,15].…”

“…[13]. The large P T region has been discussed at length in the literature and is related to contributions from higher order QCD processes, like hard gluonic radiation and elementary scatterings initiated by gluons: these cannot be neglected when P T ≫ λ QCD [11,13,14,15].…”
