Escherichia coli Isolated from Cases of Colibacillosis in Russian Poultry Farms (Perm Krai): Sensitivity to Antibiotics and Bacteriocins

Abstract: Escherichia coli strains isolated from case of colibacillosis in Russian poultry farms in the region of Perm Krai were analyzed for their sensitivity to main antibiotics and bacteriocins. Sensitivity profiles for 9 antibiotics and 20 bacteriocins were determined with the disc diffusion method and the overlay test, respectively. Further, with the PCR the presence of several bla and integron 1 genes was revealed and the phylogenetic group for each strain determined. Among the 28 studied E. coli strains 85.7% wer… Show more

“…The resistance considered as a consequence of indiscriminate use of antimicrobials. These mechanisms causing the bacteria to adopt one of three changes within the existing genome mutations , proteome (phase variation) of a bacteria or by the formation of bacterial cell interactions (mixed bacterial biofilms) and horizontal transfer of new genes (acquisition) ( Kuznetsova et al, 2020 ) . Moreover, ( Volkova et al, 2014 ) thought that transduction by bacteriophages has a modest role to play in these horizontal antimicrobial resistance gene transfer which is thought to occur as a result of conjugative plasmids, transposons or naked DNA uptake because of the global rise of numerous drug-resistant bacteria, antibiotics that were considered as an “endangering species” so the world has increased new interest to bacteriophages as promising antimicrobial agents ( Dalmasso et al, 2016 ).…”

“…Only a few studies have systematically assessed the efficiency of microcins (and, more generally, of bacteriocins), for the inhibition of MDR bacteria, and/or the microcin/bacteriocin and antibiotic cross-resistance (Ben Said et al, 2020;Kuznetsova et al, 2020). Although the activities reported so far are encouraging, more systematic studies on the inhibitory potential of microcins against MDR strains remain necessary to confirm the potential of microcins as alternatives to antibiotics against MDR and are thus of high research priority.…”

“…Its phylogenetic group (B1) was revealed by quadruplex phylotyping PCR [10]. Furthermore, as shown by PCR using specific primers, the used APEC strain possess following genes: flyF (haemolysin), fimH (fimbriae), iha (invasion) and blaTEM, blaCTX-M (extended-spectrum β-lactamase) [7,10,11]. The strain RB1 was deposited in the Ex culture collection of the Infrastructural Center Mycosmo (Slovenia) in 2020 as L-5889 strain.…”
