Essays on the regulation of long-term care in the Netherlands

Hendrik Paulus Letterie

Abstract: Long-term care is characterised by its high cost of provision so that most elders cannot afford it themselves. As a consequence, some form of public insurance or reduced payments to ensure access to long-term care become necessary. By extension, eligibility criteria and reimbursements to long-term care providers also become fundamental to making the market work. In this thesis, I present three chapters that study the regulation of the (residential) long-term care market.
