Essential oil composition of seven populations belonging to twoNepetaspecies from Northwestern Iran

Abstract: Essential oils from the aerial parts of three populations of Nepeta crassifolia (Lamiaceae), which are Iranian endemic species and four populations of N. nuda grown in northwestern Iran were obtained by hydro-distillation and examined by gas chromatography (GC) and GC-mass spectrometry (GC/ MS). Overall, 37 compounds were identified in the essential oils from different populations of N. crassifolia and N. nuda. The essential oils consisted mainly of oxygenated monoterpenes and sesquiterpene aldehydes. The majo… Show more

“…However, no significant difference in FC2 as the weakest one was detected compared to FC3. Based on literature review, there are many reports on medicinal plants such as Salvia reuterana , [2] Rhus coriaria , [25] Nepeta crassifolia , N. nuda , [26] Trachyspermum ammi , [27] and Achillea wilhelmsii , [28] confirming the EO yield discrepancy among the populations located at different geographical conditions. The EO accumulation in the Ferula genus has been observed to vary considerably depending on species and organ type [7,19] .…”

“…In N. nuda grown in Bulgaria a complex mixture of iridoid compounds is confirmed; except E,E-nepetalactone isomer (with 62.0 %), 4a,7a-dehydronepetalactone was present in low concentration (1.3 %) (Handjieva et al, 1996). In the four populations of N. nuda from Iran collected from different localities, the Z,Z-nepetalactone was dominant (from 61.0 to 72.2 %), followed by E,Z-nepetalactone (8.7-12.6 %) (Narimani et al, 2017). N. nuda subsp.…”

“…However, the proportions and nature of the identified chemical compounds of the analysed EOs are not always the same compared with the previous studies. These differences may be due to genetic, distinct environmental and climatic conditions, geographic origins, and plant populations [49,50].…”
